Abstract:

Why do we care about early childhood outcomes? This presentation to local special education leaders reviews the research base for the interplay between poverty and disability in young children and discusses why providing high quality services early in children’s lives is needed to change trajectories. What we know about child outcomes for young children with disabilities including the national data reported by states is summarized. The presentation closes with recommendations for local leaders.
