Search Resource Database: State Approaches to Measuring Outcomes

Presented at the 2009 Measuring Child and Family Outcomes Conference.

This session explored the connection between state early childhood standards, assessment frameworks and state-system development. Recommendations and practices were discussed that address linking state accountability systems with early childhood standards-based assessment efforts. Examples from states implementing connections across systems were provided.

Presenters discussed similarities and differences about why they decided to align their early learning guidelines to assessment tools and OSEP's child outcomes and about how they did it. They explored with participants how outcomes data can be used to answer questions about program development and quality.

In this facilitated discussion from the 2007 Measuring Child and Family Outcomes Conference, two states shared their experiences and lead participants in a discussion of the challenges and considerations in developing collaborative and integrated accountability strategies across multiple early childhood programs in states.
