The purpose of this webinar was to provide the latest information on how programs are measuring child and family outcomes to meet federal requirements, and to provide information about how PTI staff can be involved in state efforts to measure child and family outcomes. This is an encore presentation from the June, 2009 Measuring Child and Family Outcomes conference. In this session, two states shared how they are preparing for local programs to use child outcomes data to improve local Part C and 619 services and results for children and families. Alaska discussed how their data system is designed to assist local EI programs in reporting, understanding, and eventually using their data for program improvements. Minnesota shared activities that support local leadership in conducting simple analyses for the purpose of pattern checking the quality of ECSE data.

The Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process is designed to be a team process, which includes the family of the child with a disability. Talking with and informing families about all the aspects of the early intervention and/or early childhood special education process is a marker of quality, and is absolutely essential for both individual child planning and accurate child outcomes measurement. In this encore presentation of the 2012 Outcomes Conference session, "Inquiring Families Want to Know: Engaging Families in the Outcomes Rating Process," ECO staff hosted a webinar with other states discussing their professional development methods designed to enhance both providers' and families' understanding of the COS process and their capacity to participate fully in rating discussions.
